IT’S all systems go at Minehead Cricket Club who after winning promotion from the Somerset Cricket League in 2023 will be competing back in the West of England Premier League (WEPL) Somerset Division. The MCC First XI open their campaign at Yeovil, on Saturday May 4, on the same day Minehead A XI travel to play Sampford Arundel in Division Three of the West Somerset League, while the Seconds host Chard in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League on Monday 6th May.

Minehead canceled their pre-season cricket friendly against Wellington at Queen's College, Taunton, due to the pitch not being ready from bad weather. Both clubs were champions last season: Minehead in the Somerset League Premier Division and Wellington in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League, winning 16 matches without a loss, with two cancellations.

The Somerset Council oversees the Rainbow Way development on Seaward Way, which includes 54 low-carbon council properties and a pedestrian link to the town center and seafront. Plans to install "rebound mesh fencing" to protect against cricket balls breaking windows were approved unanimously by the Planning Committee. Originally planned for the cricket club's land, an agreement couldn't be reached, leading to the fencing being placed along the housing development's southwestern boundary. Councilor Andy Hadley noted missed opportunities for compromise.
