Club History

Minehead Cricket Club (MCC) was established in 1865 under the guidance of George Thrissell, the proprietor of the Plume of Feathers Hotel in Minehead. Initially, the club played in the Ponsford Road/Tregonwell Road area before relocating to the current Minehead Recreation Ground. Between World War 1 and the early 1930s, MCC fielded several Somerset players, including A S Bligh, A W Burgess, and N S Mitchell-Innes, who also played for England. C B Fry was a frequent visitor and played for the club. However, during the 1930s, financial difficulties led to the club being known as the Minehead Wanderers for a season.

During World War 2, the club continued in a scaled-down form with players not enlisted in the military. After the war, cricket's popularity soared, and the club moved to Warren Road around 1950. In the early 1960s, Butlins relocated the club to a new pitch, but it did not meet expectations. The club returned to "The Rec" until 1978.

In 1980, MCC moved to West Somerset Community College, where it flourished both on and off the field. League cricket was introduced, youth and women's cricket expanded, and administrative efficiency improved. The club also obtained a bar license, providing crucial revenue.

Facing challenges due to college development, MCC successfully raised funds for a new pavilion, officially opened in 2013. Secure agreements for pavilion and pitch use ensure the club's future. Since then, MCC has thrived, hosting various cricket events and enhancing community engagement.
